These are my two person core values. When I tell this to people, sometimes they respond with, “Really? They seem like the opposite of each other.”
Allow me to explain.
At the end of the day, they are the same. They arise from the same source, and that source is love. (my secret core value)
At the end of the day, I reckon a human is completely satisfied when they know they have been of service to their fellow man. That’s for both in their smaller circles and personal relationships, and the impact they leave on this planet. Anything short of that, and I can see someone often feeling (subconsciously) what’s the point of any of this and dying less-than-blissful.
Service is when everyone wins. It’s when life has meaning.
And we all know the pithy and true statement that one’s cup must be full in other to serve others. Well, tis true.
Power as a word blossomed from the definition of simply “able to do work” or “capable of doing.” What is service without action? I must empower myself to be connected to real peace. Not just feel peaceful at times, but to know that my source is peace, and so even in unpeaceful times, I am still powerful. I’m still capable. And I only am capable because I already am–not because I’ve got to prove myself as good and then I have the power.
Power and Service as my core values allows me to practice returning to self-love, self-capability, self-knowing while interacting with the dance of life in a way that’s purposeful and beautiful. I wish English had one word for both practicing being of power and being of service at the same time. I guess for now, I’ll go with “Janan.” 😀 😉
