My word for the year here in 2023 is Confidence. I’ll be the first to admit that up until now, that’s something I’ve struggled with. Always second-guessing myself. I’d have a brilliant realization and a second later, doubt it.
I’ve honed in on the root: I haven’t known who I am. What I am is an unchanging light of soul called Purusa. Who I am in this human life is simply what I want. The English “want” might make you think I’m talking about whims and pleasures. What I mean is what I truly want, at the end of my life. What do I want to be leaving behind me? What do I want for myself and this world?
Who I am is love, service, and empowerment. Identifying this, trusting this, and knowing that it’s what fulfills me deeply means that anything and everything I say and do, even the mistakes, will guide me to where I want to go.
Ultimately, where I want to go is to that Purusa, that ultimate bliss and connection with all. What I am helping me to remember who I am. Being myself means giving up an attachment to animalistic whims or inhuman judgments that suck away my confidence.
Being authentically me and authentically you happens in remembering what it is that you truly want, resting in it, and expressing from it.
