How to Make It as a Yoga Teacher

1. Be amazingly, classically attractive with tons and charisma, good at social media, and a natural athlete that can already do all the poses. The end!
2. If you are not amazingly, classically, attractive, make sure you have another full time job that pays well or marry rich.
3. Start small. Teach at the crappiest times with the least amount of students and get your ego destroyed week after week.
4. Once your ego can get destroyed no more, (usually 1 year), hire a photographer and use every penny you’ve earned teaching yoga in that year to pay for photos you’ll use for the next 5 years. Tell yourself it’s a good investment, but really, you just want to feel cute.
5. Make a rudimentary website almost no one will ever see. Never update it.
6. Rejoice when you get a primetime slot at your favorite studio, yet give it away after a few months because of “self-care.”
7. After 5 or so years, realize that teaching yoga full time and actually growing wealth means way more than “hustling.” You need business acumen.
8. Make the decision to go back to school in something else you think you’re passionate in, but give up when you can’t find all your transcripts. Take a reiki certification course instead.
9. You finally have 1,500 followers on Instagram. Try to rebrand yourself with another photoshoot.
10. You did it! You made it to the final step of being a yoga teacher! The structure of your life is no different from where you began (teaching a few times per week and must be partnered to a working person or working full time yourself) and you’ve just made peace with it!
